Family and Friends

We all lead busy lives and sometimes it isn't possible to spend as much time as you would like with your relative or friend who is living in a care home. Perhaps you live at a distance. Maybe you are concerned that your loved one is becoming isolated or feels lonely.

Gem offers you an easy way to maintain regular contact. It's also a great way to unite the wider family: grandchildren can stay in touch, as can extended family, long-standing friends and former colleagues.

You can email a daily message from anywhere in the world - even if you are just away on holiday - direct to your loved one's personal email address. You can attach photos or even chat face-to-face using Skype. You can also give access to videos of family events or music you know your loved one will enjoy.

There is much more. Using Gem, residents can learn to use the internet, watch favourite films, follow the news, take trips down memory lane, and keep up to date with all their interests. This kind of activity provides stimulation and gives access to the outside world.

SimplyUnite Gem is intuitive and easy to use. It includes a touchscreen so that anyone can use it, whatever their capabilities. Those living with dementia can also enjoy keeping a personal album of photographs and gain pleasure from these when reminiscing. SimplyUnite provides training for staff at your loved one's care home to provide guidance and support when required.

'I have such guilt when I can't get to see my mother. With Gem I can drop her a line, Skype or send pictures so that she knows we are thinking about her.'

'As I began sending emails I soon picked it up. It's wonderful being able to see the photos of all the snow from my daughter in Canada and, using Google, I have been able to look up maps and photos of where she lives, which is marvellous.'
